Malcolm Barwick from Billy Row
A FORMER Submariner from Billy Row is preparing to brave the shave to raise money for a cancer charity.
Malcolm Barwick served in the Royal Navy, on submarines for ten years before returning home to his home village in 2022. A former pupil of Wolsingham School, Malcolm has made the decision to lose all his facial and scalp hair to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
He has chosen to have Cutz4fellas in Crook to shave his beard – and it will be the first time he has been clean shaven since 2018 – and his head shaven, with a cut throat razor. This will take place on his 43rd birthday – 17th July – at 10am.
Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity close to his heart – because his best friend from the veteran community – passed away from cancer. Whenever Geoff was taken by Malcolm to hospital appointments, Geoff would spend time chatting with the support workers. Malcolm also lost his life-long neighbour to Cancer.
Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the leading cancer care charities and all money raised by events such as Malcolm’s will help people living with the illness. £160 could pay for a Macmillan support worker for one day, helping people living with cancer receive the support they need. £448 could run the Macmillan Support Line phone service for one hour. In this time, they could support eight people affected by cancer who want questions answered or who need practical or financial support.
Through the on-line link and through cash donations, Malcolm has already raised £350.
