Assists: Harrison ( Proudly sponsored by Amyzing Clean)
MOTM: George-( Proudly sponsored by Huntleys fish & chips) This lad was absolutely everywhere today. His energy and effort was incredible. He played three different positions and brought so much positivity to our play. Great game George.
Gabriel- ( Proudly sponsored by Weardale Gazette) Sounds awful but I don’t like Gabriel having so much to do in games. But it’s amazing to know that when we need him he is there. He was solid today, making great save after save and his distribution continues to get better and better. Great game Gabriel .
Pre-match Talk: Today’s team talk was all about starting strong and making our mark on the season early. We had to get at the opposition and make it stick.
Game Time: We started really well and for the majority of the play we were by far the stronger of the two teams. We were controlling play and getting the ball down. We were playing really positive football. About 5-10 mins in our momentum was rocked after Elliott went over on his ankle. Please not another break or bad injury . It is not great as he still has ice on the injury. We were battling hard all over the pitch from back to front. On the 17th minute Harrison played a great ball forward to Zach who went past the defence, (even when they were all over him) and put it past the keeper with cool and ease. Get in!!! Our first goal of 26/27 and well deserved. Goal: 1-0, Scorer: Zach, Assist: Harrison.
For the next 5 minutes we were on the front foot again and creating more chances. After around the 20th minute we could not get going and seemed to defend for the remainder of the half conceding to many corners. We were inviting pressure and seemed like we running out of steam.
We defended resolute and kept the clean sheet till half time.
Half time: 1-0
Half highlight: Our first goal of the season. Great determination from Harrison and Zach and finished superbly.
Half Time talk: I told the lads at half time that they needed to pick up the energy and effort. We needed to be first, second, third and fourth and last to every ball. We needed to get control of the game like I know we can and play our own game.
Second Half:
Again, the opposition put us under incredible pressure after the restart and although we rode our luck at times we kept it tight and tried to play in the right way. Around 15 minutes into the second half, we struggled to get out and conceding corners cost us. The opposition played their corner into the box and we didn’t react and they scored from 8 yards out. Goal: 1-1. Do we feel sorry for ourselves?? No way the Warriors got their second wind and the game was now back and forth. We were pushing for the winner and went close a couple of times.
At the other end we defended with good determination. The teamwork shown today was incredible. They were working for each other, supporting each other, encouraging and congratulating each other. It was amazing to see the togetherness. No one can break that from us.
The full time whistle went and you could see the disappointment on our lads faces. It felt like a defeat for them. That’s a good thing. It shows that they are not happy with the draw and want more. That’s the desire we will build on together.
Full time: 1-1.
Half highlight: The heart we showed after the opposition got the equaliser. We started to play with more energy and get in their faces. We came close to winning the game and on another day would have.
Final Thoughts: Not the result we wanted but a good point to start. More work to be done individually and as a team. We have to deal better with teams that are physical and we need to be louder as a team. We dust ourselves off and go again. Come on lads.
