The county’s longest-serving magistrate has been honoured by the High Sheriff.
Dorothy Winter, who lives in Crook and is a retired Civil Servant who worked in the Land Registry, has been presented with an award by the High Sheriff, Dr Arnab Basu MBE DL. She was presented in Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court, one of the courts in which she sits as a Presiding Justice.

Dorothy was appointed to the now defunct Wear Valley and Teesdale Bench in 1984, over 40 years ago. She has served in all of the County Durham courts, most now closed and also in Middlesbrough. She also holds the honour of being the very first female Chairman of the Bench.
The High Sheriff’s award was presented for her long and conspicuous service to His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service.
Well deserved.
