Collect
God, our refuge and strength,
bring near the day
when wars shall cease
and poverty and pain shall end,
that Earth may know the peace of heaven
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Your Prayers
Bishop Rick invites us to join with him daily using this prayer over the coming year:
Almighty God, you are calling us
as the churches of the Diocese of Durham
to renewed life, hope and vision:
take our worship and witness,
that, by the work of your Spirit,
many may come to faith in Christ
and that we would become
a church of missionary disciples.
So, may you bless our congregation,
and – through us – bless our parish,
through the love and service
of your living, growing church in this place;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
We continue to keep in ourprayers all in our community who are in any kind of need. Our prayers are asked particularly for Kathleen Kirby.
News
Coming up This Week
Mothers’ Union – Tues 10th Nov 2pm
Our Mothers’ Union group meets every month on the second Sunday of each month at 2pm in Stanhope Church. There is a short act of worship and usually a speaker and refreshments. New members (including men!) are always welcome.
Faith Through Music – Tues 10th Nov 8pm
This month’s “Faith through Music” will be looking at the hymn often used in Remembrance Day ceremonies: “I Vow to Thee, My Country.” We’ll be meeting, as always, on Zoom at 20:00 on the 10th November. Contact Richard via the newsletter if you want to join the discussion.
Looking into Advent, Richard wants to look at songs that address the question “Who is the Christchild?” rather than those that retell the Christmas story. Whilst Richard has curated a list of four songs, it’s not set in stone yet, and he would welcome suggestions (bearing in mind that we’ve already looked at “”O Come, O Come Emmanuel.”)
It would be fantastic to have a few more people in our conversation, either on Tuesday or over Advent.
Coming Soon …
Friends of St Thomas Stanhope AGM – 19th Nov 7pm
The AGM for the Friends of St Thomas will be on November 19th at 7pm in St Thomas’ Church. The agenda is attached.

Men’s Fellowship – 19th Nov 7pm
This month’s meeting is at 7pm in the Methodist Church Hall, and starts with a two-course meal followed by coffee and a speaker. This month the speaker is Elizabeth Catsford on ‘Travels with a Minister’ More info on 07783504226
