‘Weird’ Review

By Amalia Sabrosa (aged 13)

If you loved ‘Six’ you are going to love ‘Weird’! It tells the story of Shakespeare’s Macbeth from the point of view of the witches. You don’t need to have seen that play to enjoy this musical.

Set design:

I liked the set because it was very simple. On the floor was a semi-circle of grass with four blocks. Above was a large light up circle which came down at certain points. This simple design made transitions between scenes very smooth.

Costume:

One of my favourite parts of the design was the costumes. They reminded me of Elizabethan times. I liked that the female characters had bold jewelled colours such as red, green, pink and purple. This reinforces the power of women. The men are in muted blacks, browns and blues. I loved the music, it was very catchy and no wonder because it was by the same person who wrote the music for Six! The music was very up-beat but I wish there was more dance/choreography. I would definitely recommend this. It is very child-friendly and overall, it was a fun, fabulous and fierce musical!!!
