Changes have been taking place in the Weardale Sewing Rooms since it opened in May last year.
The children at their sewing class have renamed themselves. They are now known as:
‘BUTTONS & BISCUITS’

The Sewing Rooms also now have small charity status and are very excited to announce that they have been shortlisted for ‘Members Choice’ with Scotmid Co-op.
Louise, one of the founders, said, “We would love your vote so please support the children in your community and register online for a Lakeside and Dales Co-op card and vote for us!
“The funding will make an enormous difference to what we can offer our children.”
Buttons & Biscuits is aimed at children aged 8-11 years and the group is growing rapidly.
These sessions provide a safe, nurturing space where children can explore fabric, colour, and design while developing practical skills that boost independence and imagination.
During the last few months they raised £150 for the Weardale charity, 123help4 families.

“We made two Xmas gonks and sold their names. We also created a sewing Christmas tree, which won the community category at the Wolsingham Xmas Tree festival! “

Volunteers are desperately needed to help the group continue.
Do you have a couple of hours spare each week to sit with the children when they are busy sewing and learning? No experience required, just a willingness to encourage and support them.
The Weardale Sewing Rooms have also started more groups:
DESIGN DEN
Design Den is held from 10am to 4pm on the second Saturday of the month.
This is a group of 12 – 17 year olds learning new skills and creating amazing pieces of clothing.
This year, the young members are beginning 2026 by making tea dresses in preparation for an afternoon tea they will attending around Easter time.
FAMILY SESSIONS
Classes are now running for home educated children. This is an initiative designed to teach children of all ages as a family. Please get in touch if you’d like further information.
A new project under discussion is to make dresses for ‘DRESS A GIRL AROUND THE WORLD’. This is a fantastic charity, which believes that every little girl in the world deserves at least one new dress in her life.

Dates will be announced in due course but please get in touch if you’d like to come and sew these items, are interested in donating/buying 100% cotton fabric for them, or just happy to spread the word.
The adult classes are still running successfully and there’s always room for more, whether you’re a beginner or would like to hone your skills please get in touch.
Tuesdays 6:30pm to 8:30pm and Thursdays 1:30pm to 3:30pm
Please don’t forget the alteration service that is proving very popular. An experienced seamstress who is reasonably priced is now on your doorstep. Appointment only.
