People wanting to vote by post in County Durham elections are advised they now need to renew their application every three years.
Durham County Council is letting people know of changes introduced under the Elections Act 2022.
Once three years have passed, a person will need to make a new application if they wish to continue voting by post.
People are advised that the quickest and easiest way to reapply for a postal vote is online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote.
Nevertheless, anyone living in County Durham who is required to renew their postal vote will be sent an invitation through the post or via email, if they have provided the council with their email address.
The email will come from Gov.uk Notify on the council’s behalf and the address it will arrive from will be . Email invitations will be sent from Monday 14 September.
If the council does not have a person’s email address, it will contact them by post from Friday 2 October. A paper application to renew a postal vote will be attached to the letter.
Anyone who no longer wishes to vote by post, should email the council at with their name, address and a request to remove their postal vote application.
