Join the Christmas Story at All Saints Church, Eastgate

Weardale Gazette: Trusted source for local news, events, and community updates.

All Saints Church, Eastgate is inviting everyone in the community to become part of the Christmas story this year by creating their very own peg doll to join a special nativity scene in the church.

You can decorate a peg person to represent yourself, a member of your family, or your whole family. The idea is simple: to fill the nativity scene with people from across our community, reminding us that the Christmas story is a story for everyone.

The project is already off to a wonderful start, with around 50 peg dolls decorated by people visiting the church. Contributions have also come from local Young Farmers Clubs, playgroups and community members — even the vicar has joined in! But there is plenty of room for more, and the PCC would love to see as many local people and families represented as possible.

How to take part

Peg dolls are available from Diane Woodhall Grocers in Stanhope and from the porch at All Saints Church, Eastgate or Cross Keys Eastgate. Simply collect a peg, decorate it at home as yourself or someone in your family, and bring it back to the place you collected it and become part of the growing Christmas scene.

Visitors to the Christmas Tree Festival and other services and events at All Saints will also have opportunities to decorate peg people.

The finished scene will take centre stage at the church’s Forget me not Carol Service on 6th December. The peg people will then remain on display throughout Christmas.

After Christmas, everyone who has contributed is warmly invited to return to the church, find their peg person and take it home as a reminder of being part of Eastgate’s Christmas story.

Whether you make one peg person or your whole family, come and join the Christmas story at All Saints Church, Eastgate this year.
