ANNOUNCEMENT RE STANHOPE OPEN AIR SWIMMING POOL – SUPPORT NEEDED 30/31 AUGUST
AN announcement regarding the re-opening of Stanhope Open Air Swimming pool has been posted
on social media.
The pool closed down around two years ago and did not re-open. It isn’t clear just what the
problem was but a public meeting was held last year to guage if Weardale folk wanted the pool to
re-open. The small band of hardy volunteers were cheered by the response, which was almost
unanimous. Now, it appears as though the pool DOES have a future.
This is the announcement:
‘We are hoping to have some news about the pool to announce shortly. In the meantime, we are
planning another general clear up session. Thank you to everyone who came in February. A lot of
hard work was done at that time. Unfortunately, the weeds keep growing! The good news is that
we have been given a head start this time and extra strong weedkiller is being dispensed before
the clean-up to make it easy to scrape up the weeds.
We have also hired a skip and there is already plenty of rubbish to go in it, even before we
commence this clean-up.
As well as the weeds, we are looking to clean out the office area. We have purchased anti climb
paint to repaint the railings given that we have recently had several intruders again! This is a
particularly grubby job, so if you can help with it, please wear some old clothes that you are happy
to throw away afterwards and maybe bring some protective gloves along too.
So, as you can see there is plenty to do, and all help is gratefully received. The details of the
clean-up week-end are as follows:
Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st August. Starting at 10 am on both days.
We will be there for as long as you can help (within reason!) so if you can’t make it until the
afternoon, that’s fine. It would also help if you can bring you own spade/brush/other tools you
think may be useful as we only have a couple of everything at the pool. You may also wish to bring
along flasks of tea/coffee or other refreshments. Unfortunately, there are no facilities available on
site to make these.
Please email if you are able to assist, so that we know who to
expect and when. Any help is gratefully received as many hands make light work!
Thank you.
