Notice of Public consultation on plans for reordering of the Church and the future of the Church
Hall
Dry rot was discovered in the church of St Thomas in Stanhope during the pandemic, and the
Parochial Church Council (PCC) has been working hard to rectify and eradicate the dry rot.
As part of this process some of the flooring has had to be removed which has given us the
opportunity to look at how the building can be best re-ordered for the future as a flexible and
welcoming space for all the community of Stanhope.
Replacing flooring alone is an expensive task, alongside all the running costs associated with a
listed building. The PCC also has responsibility for the St Thomas Church Hall in Stanhope, another
listed building that needs a lot of maintenance and repair.
Given all of this, the PCC has been through a period of reassessing the shape of our ministry in the
Parish, particularly in relation to the buildings, with the capacity we have as a body.
The PCC is well aware of how well-loved the hall is in the village, and is therefore giving the
residents an opportunity to hear all the plans, the reasoning for decisions and to ask questions.
The meeting will be held at 7pm on Tuesday 18 March in the parish church at Stanhope.
