THE Junior members of Wolsingham Angling Club have been enjoying away-days over the last few weeks.
Five young members journeyed to Grassholme a fortnight ago and enjoyed a good day of fishing. Chester, one of the junior members, won the heaviest trout competition with a superb Rainbow weighing just over 2.5lb and he didn’t stop there. Chester also caught his first on the fly as catching on spinner and powerbait. A fantastic hat-trick, which earned him a brand new Berkley River Fly Rod and reel, line and flies, all kindly donated by a customer from Darlington.
Last weekend, the Juniors travelled to Derwent Reservoir on a beautiful Autumn day. Again, five young members enjoyed the trip but this time it wasn’t an easy day for fly or spinning. Bait-fishing went well with Harry landing four quality trout with the biggest just shy of 2lbz. Harry won a £50 voucher, kindly donated by Simon Lee.
Leon was a close second, just four ounces behind Harry. Evan continued in his quest to catch his first Pike, which will surely happen soon.
Thanks go to the parents who taxi the young members around, to Northumbria Waterside Parks and Simon and the gentleman from Darlington for their generosity.
Wolsingham Angling Club aims to promote angling in general, protect the environment and manage the club waters for the benefit of all members. It is particularly keen on recruiting younger members. For more information about Wolsingham Angling Club, visit the Facebook page.
