Weardale Pool League
By Neil Coates
Week 27.
STANHOPE Club travelled to St Johns Chapel Blue Bell knowing that the league title was in their
grasp.  However, they made a slow start with the hosts taking and early lead through wins from
Terry Wood and Derek Iddon.  The visitors responded strongly, with victories from Adam Dobson,
Paul Dobson and Adam Robinson turning the tide. Peter Liddle then levelled the match with a win in
the final singles game.
In the doubles, Stanhope Club held their nerve and swept all three matches, securing a decisive
win and clinching the league title. Congratulations to everyone at Stanhope Club!
At Stanhope Pack Horse, Will Giles got the home side off to a strong start against Stanhope Grey
Bull ‘A’.  The visitors hit back through Carl Tunstall and Johnny Emerson, before Ian Peart and Ian
Dowson restored the Pack Horse’s lead.  Jon Anderson claimed the final singles point for Grey Bull
‘A’, who carried their momentum into the doubles, winning two of the three matches to seal a
narrow 5–4 victory and secure second place in the league.

In the final match of the evening, Stanhope Grey Bull ‘B’ welcomed the Frosterley Inn where
Darren Tinkler and Connor Hall gave the visitors an early advantage.  Sean Peoples, Jack Tinkler and
Chris Henderson then pushed the Grey Bull ‘B’ ahead before an eight ball clearance from Michael
Henderson drew the teams level.  After the opening doubles games were shared, Frosterley Inn
edged the final match to earn a 5–4 win and claim third place in the league.
The race for league Player of the Year came down to the wire, with six players tied at the top just
four weeks from the end.  In the end, Stanhope Clubs’ Adam Robinson and James Everitt from the
Black Lion, both held their nerve and shared the POY title after winning 14 out of 18 games.  Well
done both!
