WEARDALE COMMUNITY TRANSPORT APPEAL FOR CAR CLUB DRIVE

WEARDALE COMMUNITY TRANSPORT APPEAL FOR CAR CLUB DRIVE

COULD you help? Do you enjoy driving?

Would you like to volunteer to help people in your community get out and about but can’t commit to specific days or times? The Weardale Community Transport’s Weardale Eco Car Club (ECC) and Derwent Valley Car Club has a bespoke booking system that allows the non-drivers members to place ‘journey requests’ into our system. ECC volunteers can then accept or ignore the request if they can or cannot help, without any pressure of a phone call asking for help.

How does it all work??

Journey requests is directed through our online system to our team of driver volunteers who only accept a drive that they can do around their commitments. If you have a phone or laptop, this would come through as a notification without giving out your personal phone number.

Who are the volunteers?

Some of the team are retired, some parents of young children and some work from home.

Would I need to drive a minibus?

Absolutely not, the ECC car is a Nissan Leaf automatic. Full training of how to use and drive the car would be given on registering as a volunteer driver

Is Eco Car Club Volunteering the same set day or time?

No absolutely not. There’s no pressure on how much you have to do all we ask is after DBS, licence check and induction in one of the club car automatic cars, you help where you can.

What types of journeys would I drive?

Journeys are typically for shopping, social or drs / pharmacy appointments and trips.

Why is this important to me and my community?

The volunteer driver scheme (VDS) is a lifeline for many non-driver members, the Community Transport bus service is vital for our community, but through a grant it now has the Eco Car Club vehicle.

For any adult with a full drivers’ licence that can’t drive minibuses, you could now help within the automatic car.
