STAFF at the Weardale Veterinary Clinic in Crook took on a 26-mile walking challenge on Saturday (May 2nd) to raise money for Blue Cross charity.
Blue Cross is a British charity dedicated to helping sick, injured and homeless domestic pets, providing veterinary care, rehoming services and support for owners who are struggling financially.
The event, organised by Niamh Bisset from Stanhope, a Veterinary Nurse at the practice, it included owners, Billy and Elaine Maloney too as well as other members of their staff. The 26 miles was along the Coast-to-Coast route with the walkers beginning at Consett and ending at Roker. It was a hot day but the nine people who took part completed every mile and managed it in around nine hours.

Niamh said, “Because this cause means so much to us, we knew it wouldn’t be easy but we pushed each other on all the way. It was a great day in lovely weather but our bodies ached afterwards!
“This charity has helped some of our clients in difficult times and we want to give back so they can continue with this incredible work – to be there for more pets who need them most. “
Sick, injured and homeless pets have relied on Blue Cross since 1897. Thousands of abandoned or unwanted, ill or injured, pets turn to them for help every year. Their doors are always open to them, and with your support, they always will be.
Niamh added, “Thank you so much to everyone who’s already donated and supported us—we really appreciate it.”
So far, the donations page has raised over £1000. It can be found here: Niamh Bisset is fundraising for Blue Cross
