TRADES 4 CARE WORKS FOR HOSPICE
A COMMUNITY Interest Company has spent six weeks carrying out work for local hospice that saved
it around £11,000.
Trades4Care workers, along with local youngsters who gave up their free time to help, have been
redecorating St Terea’s Hospice and one of its charity shops.
Charlie Wright, a co-founder of the company that is based in Barnard Castle, said, “ By carrying out
this work – against quotes the hospice received, it has saved a lot of money that will now go back
directly into the care of patients who use this service.
“It was achieved not only by our own workers but with the help of local, young people who gave
up their free time to support us and the hospice.”
Most of the young, local adults who work on projects with this organisation are students from
Bishop Auckland, New Durham and Darlington Colleges. Much of their current and past work can be
viewed via the Trades4Care Facebook page.
Charlie is hopeful that in the coming months, Trades4 Care will be visible to Weardale folk.
He said, “We have been asked to give quotes for work in Weardale – Wolsingham, Frosterley and
Stanhope – so next year we hope to be stepping into this Dale too.”

Chief Executive of the charity, Nicola Myers said the team at St Teresa’s was ‘incredibly grateful
to Trades4Care’ for the fantastic work done’.
In a letter of thanks, she said, ‘Their professionalism, attention to detail and positive attitude have
helped transform these spaces, making them more welcoming for patients and families and more
inviting for our team and customers at the Skinnergate shop.
‘As well as delivering high-quality results, it has been a pleasure to see the young trainees gaining
valuable experience and taking pride in their work. The whole team went above and beyond and we
are absolutely delighted with the outcome.’
Ms Myers was so pleased with the results that she has arranged more work to be done at the
hospice as soon as the team is available.
‘Their ongoing support will help us continue improving our spaces for everyone who uses the
hospice,’, she said.
