Audiences across County Durham can take a trip back to the classroom next week with the arrival of classic comedy Teechers to Gala Durham.
The John Godber Company will present the hilarious and hard-hitting modern classic at the Durham County Council venue on Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 March.
Set at the end of term in post Covid times, Teechers bristles with teenage swagger and outlandish imagination as students Salty, Gail and Hobby use their BTEC Performing Arts exam to showcase their work.
What follows is a funny, fast-moving, hard-hitting account of life at Whitewall Academy as they play staff, students and site premises managers, including the new drama teacher Miss Nixon, who has helped get them into drama and changed their lives.
As Salty, Gail and Hobby conclude their performance and leave state education, it appears that Miss Nixon is moving on too, with plans to move to the local private school.
Sarah Glynn, Durham County Council’s strategic manager for culture, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Teechers to Gala Durham. This is a fresh take on a classic comedy that remains as entertaining and relevant as ever.
“Whether it makes visitors reminisce about their own experiences at school or just provides them with an evening full of laughs, we’re certain that audiences are going to be thoroughly entertained by the show.”
