MEMBERS
St John’s Chapel Town Hall in Upper Weardale is one of three good causes across the North of
England that has been awarded a share of a £9,000 Lakes & Dales Co-op funding pot. The funds were
allocated following a vote by Lakes & Dales Co-op members.
At the heart of village life, the Town Hall offers a wide range of health, wellbeing and social
activities for the local community, including a gym, yoga and fitness sessions, carpet bowls, lunch
clubs, cinema nights and a drama group.
The £5,000 funding will be used to replace windows and doors at the hall, helping prevent it from
falling into disrepair and ensuring this vital community hub can continue to be used for years to
come.
Wendy Peart at St John’s Chapel Town Hall, said: “We’re incredibly thankful for this funding,
which will help us protect and maintain a space that’s so important to the people of Upper
Weardale. This support means we can continue to bring people together and provide a home for
essential local activities.”
The other good causes that received a share of the £9,000 are Cumbria Deaf Association and
Beach Access North East (BANE).
