alternative ways to learn. In Frosterley, Tanya and Louise are talented seamstresses and offers
classes via the ‘Weardale Sewing Rooms’ which offer all manner of clothing adjustments, including
zip replacement and dress alterations.

looking to refine your skills, her classes cater to both adults and children. They provide personalised
attention to ensure everyone progresses at their own pace.
Classes cover a range of topics, including basic sewing techniques, pattern reading, and more
advanced projects. There are many benefits in learning to sew apart from the obvious of learning a
new skill. You can unleash your creative potential through various projects and connect with others
who have like-minded interests, including enjoying the monthly social get-together.
Tanya said, “Anyone can join in our monthly social sewing events to meet new friends and share
your passion for sewing. These gatherings provide a relaxed atmosphere where participants can
work on their projects, exchange ideas, and enjoy a sense of community.”
The sewing group also take part in fun group projects, learn tips from fellow sewers as well enjoy
light snacks and simply enjoy the friendly atmosphere.
“Our sewing community is welcoming and supportive,” added Tanya. “We believe in fostering
an environment where everyone feels comfortable to learn and express themselves creatively.
Whether you’re attending a class or a social event, you’ll find an inclusive and encouraging
atmosphere.”
Tanya and Louise believe that sewing is more than just a practical skill; it’s a rewarding hobby
that offers endless possibilities. By joining their classes and events, you’ll not only learn to create
beautiful, handmade items but also discover a fulfilling pastime that can provide relaxation and a
sense of accomplishment. Everything is provided and beginners can use their sewing machines
and basic materials.
Newcomers will start with simple projects like tote bags and as they gain confidence, take on
more complex projects like clothing. Tanya and Louise urge anyone interested to embrace the art
of sewing and become part of a vibrant community that celebrates creativity and craftsmanship.
