SELL-OUT CONCRT IN HOWDEN-LE-WEAR FEATURES STANHOPE SILVER BAND

By David Wright

IN a first for the NETOA in Howden-le-Wear, we were very pleased to be asked to hold an event incorporating an element of brass as part of Durham Brass Festival week.

First port of call was Stanhope Silver Band who were very keen to be involved.  Then we needed an organist for the Mighty Wurlitzer, Howard Beaumont from the Spa in Scarborough is definitely an organist for all occasions and he also jumped at the chance.

Well, what a night we had, our first sell out concert of the season (we did have to reduce seating capacity to accommodate the band).

We all enjoyed two hours of Brass band and Wurlitzer music both individually and also together. I’m sure it’s brought people to the Mighty Wurlitzer from the brass community and also people from the Wurlitzer world to brass bands.

Many thanks to Durham Brass Festival, Stanhope Silver Band, Howard Beaumont and the volunteers of the North East Theatre Organ Association. We look forward to getting together in the future.
