THE annual Scarecrow Competition is up and running in Fir Tree with many of the entries focussed on the theme of Halloween.
Organised by the Fir Tree and Harperley Residents Association, the scarecrows are inventive and entertaining. Villagers have really entered into the ‘spirit’ of things and worked together to bring some entertainment to the long, dark nights ahead – for a couple of weeks at least.
There are representations of the scary but also the innocent with The Flowerpot Men, a speed trap and a rock group vying with headless horsemen, the Grim Reaper and a huge spider.
