ROOKHOPE STUDENT SEEKS MUSIC GIGS
A TEENAGE student from Rookhope is seeking commissions to sing at events.
Charlotte Hogarth (17) enjoys singing and her talent has been hired for local events, including
weddings and birthday parties and especially at Christmas. She has regular lessons from local voice
coach, Carrie Steele who Charlotte describes as a great mentor.
She said, “J have been doing my vocal grades with Carrie for a few years now and will be taking
Vocal Grade 7 exam next month.”
Charlotte, who is studying Sports Coaching at Bishop Auckland College, also loves dancing. She
has been a member of the Wright Theatre School since she was eight years old, enjoying both
singing and dancing, attending every Saturday and appearing in stage shows.
“Both Claire Lyons and Tracy Wright at the theatre school have been wonderful teachers over the
years and I’m grateful to them both.”
Charlotte is a born performer and has taken part in Anita Savory’s ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ but
probably her biggest passion is Taekwondo under the leadership of Katey Wallace who has held
classes around the Dale for many years.
“I love singing dancing – and Taekwondo, “ said Charlotte who is a 2 nd Dan. Our club is like a
family. My master, Katey Wallace, has always shown me the right path.”
Charlotte trains four or five times a week and since joining in 2017, she says her confidence has
grown immensely thanks to the Chungdokwan club. She also paid tribute to her parents who she
describes as her biggest supporters.
“They are my biggest supporters and have always shown me that quitting is not an option and
never to give up on yourself, she said.
Charlotte works hard at both her studies and her hobbies and is hoping to end this college year
with a distinction in her Sports Coaching course. She intends to finish her course and continue her
Taekwondo journey with the ultimate aim to follow in Katey Wallace’s footsteps and teach the sport
and also fitness classes.
Inbetween times, however, she is seeking gigs where she can entertain with her beautiful voice.
