RED ARROWS PASS OVER THE DALE

RED ARROWS PASS OVER THE DALE
The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, is one of the world’s premier aerobatic display
teams and yesterday (February 24) they flew over Weardale.
Representing the speed, agility and precision of the Royal Air Force, the team is the public face of
the service. They assist in recruiting to the Armed Forces, act as ambassadors for the United
Kingdom at home and overseas and promote the best of British.
On Monday, they treated Dalefolk, flying their distinctive Hawk fast-jets in the February sunshine
and clear blue skies. Dalefolk stopped what they were doing, looked to the skies and took
photographs – none so stunning as by our own Scott Bisset from St John’s Chapel.
Scott, a member of the Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team, captured
these stunning pictures including their trademark Diamond Nine shape in the formations.
All Red Arrows display pilots have flown operationally, in frontline aircraft such as the advanced
Typhoon, and helped the Royal Air Force to secure the skies every day of the year.
Based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, the Red Arrows had flown almost 5,000 displays in 57
countries, by the beginning of 2024 – the team’s 60th season since they were formed in 1965.
The Red Arrows left RAF Waddington on their way to RAF Lossiemouth to carry out some pre
season training in the open skies of northern Scotland .
