Stars on the red carpet for premiere of The Northumbria Mysteries
A premiere screening took place last night (Thursday) for a brand-new detective series filmed on location among the beautiful landscapes of the North East.
Starring Robson Green, The Northumbria Mysteries puts the region’s glorious countryside, coast and castles in the spotlight.
Robson was joined on the red carpet by two of his co-stars, Liz White and Gurjeet Singh, for the screening in Newcastle upon Tyne. Organised by the BBC and North East Screen and held in front of 200 guests, the screening was followed by a panel Q&A session hosted by BBC Look North’s Carol Malia.
Commissioned by BBC Daytime for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, The Northumbria Mysteries launches on 23 October. It was filmed earlier this year at much-loved locations, including Holy Island, Bamburgh and Alnwick.
Robson Green told the audience in Newcastle: “It is my home and home is a feeling and I think people will feel at home watching this…It was a real labour of love and I’m so proud to have my name alongside it.”
At the heart of the show is an unlikely crime-solving duo: ex-con Joe Ruby (Robson Green) and Oxford-educated DI Rose O’Connell (Liz White). Rose is an intellectual with an ice-cool disposition, Joe meanwhile has been on the wrong side of the law for much of his life but is now trying to make amends and move to the right side.
Joe is a volunteer at a local priory, tending to the grounds, seeking forgiveness, and attempting to start a new life, all under the kind but watchful eye of Father David (Simon Callow). Gurjeet Singh stars as DS Raj Singh.
Commissioned for BBC iPlayer and BBC One by Rob Unsworth in his capacity of Head of BBC Daytime and Early Peak Commissioning, the Commissioning Editor is Helen Munson.
The Northumbria Mysteries series is a Lonesome Pine Productions production for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, supported by the North East Production Fund delivered on behalf of the North East Screen Industries Partnership (NESIP) by North East Screen, with funding from the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority (MSA) and Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA). Banijay Rights handles international distribution for the series.
