And show season begins…
After an absence of a few years, Lanchester Show made a comeback this weekend.
Founded over 70 years ago, it is billed as an agricultural show and although there were no farm animals to be seen today, there were a lot of vintage tractors and livestock tomorrow (Sunday) The dog show was very popular as was the huge fairground for people of all ages to enjoy.
Set in open countryside with stunning views, there were marquees full of interesting exhibits and stalls selling all manner of items, from antiques to newly-published books. The church had one too, with the enthusiastic Rev Sutherland welcoming everyone with a smile. She has devised a very special Nativity activity and it was on offer at the show – peg dolls for folk to make into their own image to be included in the church display at the end of November. Everyone who entered the church marquee was encouraged to take one away and bring it back for the service.
There was food and drinks, live music and entertainment and a large display of vintage vehicles from pushbikes to low loaders with one full of classic cars! It was a celebration of farming and countryside heritage with outdoor stalls selling vintage implements and so much more.
DML Cars brought along a huge selection of used cars at decent prices too.
Tomorrow (Sunday August 16th) will see a huge equestrian show organised by Debbie Gerrard an Michael Suddes with prizes and rosettes along the way. Gates open at 9am. £10 entry fee.
