Two King James I Academy pupils, Isabella Fantin and Tallulah Hope, have been recognised at this year’s Durham County Council Young People’s Awards for their achievements as members of Astrid Academy of Movement gymnastic display team.
The annual awards celebrate the outstanding achievements, resilience, community spirit and leadership of young people across County Durham, and recognise young role models, youth voice champions, junior superstars, community groups, and sport, culture and arts champions. The award is fitting recognition of the pupils’ dedication, hard work and commitment to their sport, and marks another exciting milestone in their gymnastics journey.
This success comes as they prepare for an exciting international opportunity. Next summer, Isabella and Tallulah will represent Great Britain at the World Gymnaestrada in Portugal, where they will join over 20,000 gymnasts from around the world. This event, which takes place every four years, sees enthusiasts come together to perform routines of national and cultural significance for fans who have travelled from all corners of the globe.
King James is committed to supporting all of their young athletes as they compete at regional, national and international levels. Accompanied by Deputy Headteacher, David Longstaff, who is also fundraising on their behalf, the girls will soon be undertaking a sponsored walk to raise funds which will help subsidise their Portugal trip.
