HUNWICK COFFEE MORNING RAISES FUNDS FOR MND CHARITY
A Coffee Morning, held at Hunwick WMC in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, raised
over £2000.
The event, organised by Lisa Marie Hawkins, was held as part of the fundraising campaign being
run by 39-year-old Angie Bennett, originally from Crook, who was diagnosed with the illness in
January. Angie is a former hairdresser and now lives in Newton Aycliffe. Despite worsening
symptoms, including losing strength in her arms, which led to her having to give up her career, she is
determined to tackle the Peak District Ultra 25k challenge on her 40 th birthday on June 28th.
Angie is aided by her family, which includes her father, three sisters, husband, Martin, and her
children. Martin is training for the Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon in May and so far, more than
£15,000 has been raised.

Angie has been on a tough journey over the past few years, after gradually losing strength in her
arms, which forced her to step away from her beloved hairdressing, she was eventually diagnosed.
Angie’s sister, Elaine Armstrong who lives in Fir Tree, said, “ Angie is determined to complete the
tasks she has set herself. to raise money, which will go towards finding a cure for this illness as well
as helping others who suffer from it.
“She is not one to give up easily. Her friends have gathered round her to support and help with the
fundraising and a group of them will be tackling the Peak District 25k with her. “
The MND Association does incredible work supporting those affected by this disease, funding vital
research, and campaigning for better care and treatments. Every penny raised by Angie’s family and
friends, will help them.
Her friends have founded a fundraising page where they say:’ We’d love your support—whether
that’s through a donation, sharing this page, or even just sending us some words of encouragement
(especially when we hit the halfway point and start questioning our life choices).
