Fly-tipping menace blights the countryside
FLY-TIPPING is blighting is blighting the countryside in which we live with more and more reports of
seeing rubbish tipped irresponsibly in our rural areas.
When a report is received about rubbish on public land by the local authority, they quickly act
upon it but it costs us all, through our taxes, to make good the damage. Meanwhile, where fly-
tipping occurs on private land, it is the responsibility of the land owner to clear it. Obviously, this
costs the landowner money to do so.
The local authority provides a waste collection service as well as many waste disposal centres
around the county, including every fortnight at Frosterley where Weardale residents can take their
waste.
It is a bone of contention to those who enjoy our beautiful countryside when these crimes occur –
because it IS a criminal offence to dump waste and there are severe penalties for those caught with
high fines and court costs.
PLEASE dispose of your waste and rubbish in the correct manner!
