IF you enjoy the delights of Crepe Expectations, do not despair – they haven’t stopped trading but there Facebook page has had some difficulties of late.
Catherine and John, who own the travelling business, are still working hard to bring you the delights you have come to enjoy and expect.
They embarked on this venture after being inspired by a very happy looking couple in a coffee trailer outside a castle in Scotland while they were on holiday from their previous demanding jobs. Further up the coast the couple discovered another, this time serving crepes. As life-long crepe fanatics it seemed like the perfect thing for them to invest in.
And so, later that summer they saw a very dodgy looking old horsebox on Ebay and the adventure began! John’s skills were put to work and a year or so later they had a functioning catering trailer to bring to the Dale – the place where they live. Since then, they have continually improved and modified both the food they offer and the horsebox itself.

Catherine said, “We have been on an amazing adventure and have been lucky enough to meet some wonderful people and attend some extraordinary events.”
They have taken their trailer everywhere – from tiny markets and pub car parks to Raby and Alnwick Castles and even to the final night of filming on multi-million pounds film “The Bone Temple”. They have attended corporate and sales events, birthday parties, weddings, food festivals, farmers markets, football and cricket matches, colour runs, Pride events, agricultural shows, school events, music festivals (even a heavy metal festival!) and countless other wonderful places..
John and Catherine create delicious sweet and savoury crepes and hot custardy crumbles, cooked and prepared before your eyes!
Their traditional crepe batter is made from whole milk, free range eggs and flour, but they do offer an alternative batter which is gluten and dairy free. This is made from a special blend of GF flours, buckwheat and organic GF oat milk. They also offer vegetarian and vegan options, GF/ dairy free crumbles and custard.

The portions are generous – each crepe measures over 15 inches across and if you want it fully loaded it will be – or you can stick to a simple lemon and sugar.
Prices range from £4.50 for a lemon and sugar to £9 for a Classic savoury crepe with ham, chorizo, chilli jam, our trademark toasted cheddar edge and baby leaves.
And they both have level 3 food safety certificates, FSA Allergy training and a 5 star food hygiene rating from Durham County Council.
Crepe Expectations can be visited most Thursdays from 5:30 – 7:30pm – go along and experience it for yourself.
