Consett Warriors honoured at Presentation Evening
YOUNG lads from the Dale were among those who were honoured for their amazing season at an
event held in Consett AFC Club.
The night, organised by Coach, Jason Howe and his wife, Helen (nee Little from Wolsingham),
began with a Race Night event where participants could bet on horses and watch the races via a
large TV in the club. The horses, races and jockeys were sponsored by local businesses including
some from Weardale. One very special race was dedicated to Ralph Little, who was the father of
Helen. It was a very poignant race and everyone there who had known him, knew how proud of his
grandsons, Warrior and Mascot respectively, Elliot and Joshua, he would have been.
Later, the presentation of awards took place with these young boys who have been so successful
throughout the season, winning everything before them, including the league, were rewarded for
their hard work, sportsmanship and diligence. Jason presented most of the prizes with a former
England Lioness, Aran Embleton, who played for England ladies in the early 200s presenting an
award, along with her wife, Lianne, who runs the Floral Décor Company and who had decorated the
clubhouse and tables beautifully. Weardale Gazette editor, Anita Atkinson, was also invited to
present an award too, much to her delight.
The awards were as follows: Most Versatile Player – Teddy. Game changer – Olly HN. Speed King-
Zach. Super interceptor – Jack. Wicked winger- Jacob. Dedicated trainer- Gabriel. The midfield
General- Bradley. Link Up Legend- Lewis. Demon Defender – Leo. Fearless- Oliver. Corner King-

Golden Gloves- Gabriel. Goals of the Season- joint 1st Leo, Elliott, Zach. Supporters Player- Cassius.
Players Player – Dylan. Managers Player – Zach. Captain 25/26 – Dylan.
With each award, the applause raised the roof, not only from parents but also from the other
players. They were as one, a real family of friends and with the obvious tender care and love from
Coach Jason, It was a joy to watch.
Jason, Helen and all the other volunteers – those who sell raffle tickets, organise car shares, and
everything else that goes into running an amateur boys’ football team should be congratulated. They
are the most important people on the team – the heart of the team. Jason, in particular, has taught
those boys more than just how to kick a football, he taught them teamwork, resilience, discipline
and sportsmanship. He has built their confidence, encouraged their effort and reminded them that
having fun is just as important as winning.
In any organisation, volunteering is seldom an easy ride. It means giving up weekends, staying
late, waking up early and juggling your own responsibilities – but Jason and his team of volunteers
did it and did it so well with passion, patience and heart. They are the people who stood in the rain
to help set up the field ready for the game and cheered from the sidelines.
Well done Jason and the Warriors – here’s to next season!
