Bridge Creative CIC has announced the launch of Street Food Fridays, a brand-new monthly street food market taking place on the last Friday of every month (March–October) in Bishop Auckland.

The new event builds on the town’s much-loved “last Friday” tradition. Bridge Creative previously co-produced Bishop Auckland’s Street Food Markets in partnership with Baccanalia. Now, Bridge is bringing the market back under a new name with fresh energy, a renewed focus on community atmosphere, and ambitious plans to evolve the experience over the season.

Street Food Fridays will bring together a rotating mix of independent traders serving hot street food, sweet treats, and cold food and drink, alongside gift and craft stalls – creating a lively end-of-month destination for residents and visitors alike.

Reimagining the market: themed nights, contests, and a Spring Equinox launch

This year, Bridge Creative is looking to reimagine the market format with themed events, interactive moments, and eating contests, designed to keep each month feeling fresh while still staying true to what people love about street food nights.

The season will kick off with a Spring Equinox themed Street Food Fridays event on Friday 27 March, featuring giant immersive light installations that will transform the market space after dark.

The installations have been created by autistic adults and adults with a learning disability in Bridge Creative’s workshop as part of an Arts Council England funded project, supporting artists to develop their creative practice and build skills in light installation and public artwork production. There will be three separate installations showcased at events across County Durham, with the first unveiling taking place at Bishop Auckland’s Street Food Fridays.

Ben, Managing Director at Bridge Creative, said:

“Street Food Fridays is about keeping a tradition alive that Bishop has genuinely made its own – that last Friday of the month that traders and the community know and love. We’re really excited to produce this new event, with fresh plans to build the experience over the season. Kicking things off with the Spring Equinox event feels like the perfect statement of intent – brilliant food, a great atmosphere, and immersive light installations made by autistic adults and adults with a learning disability through our Arts Council project. It’s a proper celebration of creativity, community, and great traders all in one place.”
