THE next meeting of Bishop Auckland Civic Society will take place on Monday, 10th November at 7.30pm at Bishop Auckland Cricket Club (DL14 7JU) when Kim Harding will address the Society on the topic ‘Richard III and His Northern Connections.
Kim Harding has been a member of the Richard III Society for over 40 years and is a member of the Society’s Board of Directors. She is also Chair of the Northern Dales Richard III Group, a local group formed 13 years ago in the wake of the discovery of Richard’s remains in Leicester in 2012. The Group seeks to encourage a positive engagement with Richard III and late mediaeval history generally. It has recently installed commemorative etched and gilded glass windows in St. Mary’s Church in Barnard Castle to recall Richard’s College of Priests there and his favoured saints.
Married to the vicar of St. Mary’s, Kim has lived in Teesdale for over 25 years and spends much of her time in musical, historical and educational voluntary work and so has been uniquely placed to research Ricardian history in the town and locality which has such a strong connection with the last Plantaganet king.
