Bin collection days to change in County Durham

Bin collection days to change in County Durham
RESIDENTS in some areas of County Durham are being made aware of changes to their bin collection
dates.

Durham County Council is rerouting some bin collections in the south of the county to
accommodate the growing number of properties and ensure routes are evenly spread amongst its
bin crews. The changes will come into place from 1 July, where the majority of the houses affected
will have a new bin collection day.
Alternatively, some houses will see a change in their collection weeks for rubbish and recycling. A
small portion of properties will have a change to both day and week. All affected residents will
receive a letter in advance, clearly outlining their new collection day or week.
The council’s online resident portal, MyDurham, will also be updated to reflect these changes.
Cllr Karen Allison, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for neighbourhoods and
environment, said: “Over the last few years, due to factors such as new housing developments,
we’ve found that our waste collection routes have become imbalanced which has put pressure on
our bin crews.
“These changes will help our waste collections be more cost effective and ensure routes are
evenly balanced across our crews. It will also help us deliver our collection services quickly and
efficiently. Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum while we transition to the new
collection dates. Bin collection crews will be fully briefed and instructed to take additional waste
from households changing their collection week.”
