Get ready for a Big Weekend at the Weardale Railway in early June.
Organised by the indefatigable County Councillor Anita Savory, the two-day event will be held in and around the Weardale Railway. There will be craft and food stalls on the platform on the Saturday between 10am and 3pm and, of course, the Platform 2 shop, run by Sue Powley-Whittington, will be open too. There will be a pizza van and the Railway Cafe will be open.
On the Saturday evening, a concert will be held in a marquee on the Bondisle Playing fields from 6pm with tickets selling at just £5. On Sunday, a Teddy Bears’ Picnic will take place in the same venue with music and dancing and a giant teddy bear. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic and join the teddy bear trail. The Platform 2 shop will also be open.
Or why not take the opportunity of travelling on the train with cut-price adult tickets and children travelling for just £1? There will also be the free ‘Immersive Train’ to visit, an immersive trip through 200 years of rail travel in the county where it was founded.
The weekend is a fundraiser for the Stanhope and Wear Valley MS Community Support – the new MS charity whose newly refurbished charity shop is to open again imminently.
Everyone welcome to go along and enjoy the spectacle that is our own and support the charity that belongs to Weardale too.
