Anne is Domino Champion

Anne is Champion
There won’t be many folk in the Dale who don’t think Anne Hodgson from Stanhope is champion
but she became THE champion after winning the Bill Wearmouth Domino Handicap at the
weekend.
The annual competition, in memory of a well-respected and well-loved farmer from Eastgate, was
held as usual in the Cross Keys in the village. Anne won all her games, including beating
husband, Russell, twice! And had the unusual pleasure of winning all of her games in both halves
resulting in her playing herself in the final – so it was no surprise when she eventually won,
beating all-comers.
Russell, along with Alan Barker from Stanhope and Bill’s sons, George and Kenny Wearmouth,
organise the competition that is eagerly awaited every year. Anne has played in most of these,
which begun in 2008 but had never won until now.
She was delighted and proved a very popular winner, especially by her friend, landlady of the
Cross Keys, Gaynor Irwin.
Congratulations, Anne! You deserve your success.
