Alston Moor Partnership Free Film Screening

A free screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing film will take place at Alston Town Hall on Sunday 1 November at 3pm. The film addresses the implications of climate and nature breakdown with evidence-based actions that could reduce these risks. After the 50-minute film, there will be a facilitated community discussion to think about what can be done locally, both in raising awareness and in practical projects.

Many other communities around the country have already seen the film (with many more to come) and are now engaged in thought and action. The film derives from the landmark November 2025 National Emergency Briefing, attended by MPs, peers, leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media.

The briefing, introduced by Chris Packham CBE, sets out the implications of climate and nature breakdown for food security, public health, infrastructure, the economy and national security, alongside evidence based actions that could reduce these risks. It brings together leading scientists to present a clear picture of the challenges ahead, while creating space for local communities to consider what these issues may mean in their local area, and how they can support their MP to call for stronger action.

Our local MP, Markus Campbell-Savours, will be attending this screening. He has already joined those MPs backing a Parliamentary Call for government to hold its own emergency briefing to the nation – introduced by the Prime Minister, delivered by independent experts and broadcast live across TV, radio and social media.

The hosts of the screening, Alston Moor Partnership, say they want to create a space for people to look at the evidence together, and consider what can be done. Following a feasibility study for community energy projects funded by Westmorland and Furness Council earlier this year, one possibility would be a small-scale local community energy group to develop such provision, but there may be many other ideas.

The screening is free, but it would be appreciated if people booked.
