A café in a park which welcomes over 500,000 visitors a year has had a make-over.
The Tower Café at Hardwick Park has reopened its doors to customers following a period of refurbishment.
The Durham County Council-run venue has seen improvements to its kitchen area, which is now bigger, to increase capacity during busy times.
There have also been updates to the gift shop as well as the outdoor seating area, which now features a covered area to protect diners from inclement weather.
Cllr Kyle Genner, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for neighbourhoods and environment, said: “I’m really thrilled to see the Tower Café’s doors reopening again and we’re excited to welcome people back following its refurbishment.
“The team at Hardwick Park and teams across the council have worked hard over the last few years to make the park and its facilities more attractive, more accessible, and also more enjoyable for visitors. They’ve done a wonderful job, and the refurbishment of the café is no exception.
“I’d encourage people across the county to give the park a visit, and we look forward to seeing everyone enjoying their time in the new-look café.”
Hardwick Park is an 18th Century landscape park which underwent a significant renovation in 2010 and now welcomes 500,000 visitors each year.
Last summer, the council carried out a refurbishment of the park’s play areas, including the installation of a 14.5 metre play tower.
