A COFFEE Morning held to raise funds for the forthcoming Flower Festival in Tow Law took place in The Barn at Blackhall Farm at Harperley Hall.
It was a huge success with scores of people – many from Tow Law making the journey down the A68 to attend and helping raise over £300. The Tow Law flower ladies held a tombola, cake stall and raffle while folk who attended enjoyed a cuppa, cake and a chat for the price of a donation. Donations were coming in from elsewhere too by the power of the internet with one former Tow Law lady sending £20 from France! Former County Councillor, Anne Reed, who has family links to Tow Law arrived too as did others from around the area. These included Rev Geoff Lawes and his wife, Catherine – who is part of the team organizing the festival. At 89 years old, Rev Lawes is still taking services in Tow Law church.

The Flower Festival will take place in September and is being held in memory of Norman and Betty Deacon. Norman was a nationally recognized floral artist with his stunning arrangements entertaining folk around the country and he regularly held Flower Festivals in the Parish church in his town of Tow Law as well as farther afield. Norman died last year with Betty, a much loved and respected Tow Law lady, pre-deceasing him. Tow Law Parish church was packed with people at both funerals. Betty was the Postmistress in Tow Law for over 50 years and was awarded the MBE for her outstanding service. There wasn’t a person in Tow Law who didn’t know one or the other of the friendly couple.

Local businesses have already pledged to sponsor the event with monies going towards the cost of flowers.
Watch out for further details of the festival coming soon.
