Village Hall set to be the beating heart of a community
By Shelley and Jackie
There was a real buzz in Howden Village Hall on 30th May. The event gave user groups a chance to showcase their activities and, as you can see from the photos, they can be justly proud of everything they have on offer. There were also competitions for the children, as well as interactive activities such as contributing to the knitting of a community scarf and adding thumb prints to create a ‘’communitree’. The Village Friends group was in charge of refreshments so, as you’d expect, delicious home baked scones went down a treat with a cuppa. Howden Live’s impromptu jamming session (with its accompanying singalong) was an extra special highlight.

The new Village Hall leadership team planned the Open Morning and Showcase as a first step towards making the hall a true hub of the village.
A drive to increase community engagement is at the heart of their mission so visitors were warmly invited to offer ideas for future Village Hall events and activities.

As with many villages, Howden has lost churches and pubs so the Village Hall is a vital community facility. Members of the Pride in Place team also took part in the Open Morning and they loved every minute! We are so pleased that they recognise the Hall’s crucial role in revitalising community spirit in the village.

The leadership team is absolutely determined to fulfil the hall’s potential so all we can say is … watch this space because exciting times are ahead!
