RESIDENTS have reacted with surprise at the proposal for more new housing in Wolsingham.
A planning application for 40 new houses on the site of the now demolished upper school in Wolsingham is being prepared by Chapter Homes.
The news of the development was discovered when leaflets were distributed to homes in the vicinity. The development is planned for the land above the sports hall and swimming pool with the entrance to it being the existing one to these two facilities, via the narrow Leazes Lane that ultimately leads to Tunstall Reservoir.
The ‘estate’ will consist of 2,3 and 4 bedroom homes with the current car parking area being extended to cope with the vehicles for the housing as well as for the sports hall and swimming pool along with spaces for buses used to transport students to the nearby ‘lower’ school building.
The existing trees will be retained as well as added to and suitable drainage will be incorporated. The leaflet states that ‘the vision for the scheme is to design a bespoke development that compliments the wider context of Wolsingham, reflecting the local character of the town and addresses the council’s aspirations for the site. The new homes have been designed to reference local materials and use stone and render as the principal material.
The plans will apparently be discussed after the Parish Council meeting, which follows the AGM in the Town Hall on May 12th. ’
Chapter Homes, which issued the leaflet, stated it would welcome comments on the draft development proposals and offered various ways to get in touch.
