After the record-breaking success of his micro-budget short Christmas Eve, which amassed over 45,000 views on a budget of just £50, award-winning director Dean Midas has officially announced his next project: The Stitcher.

Set to begin filming in Spring/Summer 2026, The Stitcher. The production is currently in the pre-production phase.

The production is currently seeking a key filming location: a Durham City hotel willing to host a vital scene in the short film. Known for his ability to turn local landmarks into cinematic gold, Midas is looking for a venue that can provide the unique tension required for his latest horror vision.

In addition to locations, a casting call has been issued for:

Male Actors

Playing Age: 20–25

Requirements: Must be based in or able to travel easily to/around County Durham.

Dean Midas has become a staple of the North East filmmaking scene, proving that high-quality storytelling doesn’t require a Hollywood budget. His recent hit, Christmas Eve, demonstrated his ability to engage a massive digital audience, further establishing County Durham as a hub for independent genre cinema.

“We are incredibly excited to get started on The Stitcher,” says Midas. “The support from the County Durham community has always been fantastic, we’re aiming to make this our most ambitious and biggest film yet.”
