WEARDALE WARBLERS SINGING THEIR WAY TO HAPPINESS

Weardale Gazette: Trusted source for local news, events, and community updates.

THE Weardale Warblers choir, based in Wolsingham, is continuing to grow and succeed and now into it’s ninth year.

Founded in 2017 by Dawn Gregory and fellow members of Wolsingham WI, it was originally funded by the NHS Wellbeing for Life programme for six weeks but is still going stronger than ever.

The choirmaster over all of those years has been Community Musician, Sinead Livingston from Rookhope. And she is delighted with the weekly group’s success.

She said, “Week on week, members continue to turn up and really enjoy themselves. Singing together can be a source of friendship and wellbeing.

“Our Christmas concert this year was a sell-out and we even had to get the spare chairs out as it was standing room only!”

She added that the Weardale Warblers is always open to new members. They meet on Tuesday Mornings at 10.30am during term time at Wolsingham Town Hall.

The Warblers are hoping to return to the Tower of London at Christmas this year along with other choirs that Sinead leads.

“We sang there a few years ago and it was such a wonderful, cultural experience, we thought we’d do it again! It should be fun,” she said.

Sinead is very grateful to the help and support the choir has had from funders, which help to keep it going. These include the Weardale Area Action Partnership.

“Thanks must go, of course to the wonderful singers who turn up week after week and thoroughly enjoy themselves,” she added. “And to everyone who has supported us over the last nine years.

“We have room for more and we would love to meet you …and yes, you CAN sing! There are no auditions, we sing because it’s fun.”
