IT’S that time of year again with Father Christmas very busy in the North Pole frantically preparing for his round the world trip.
Meanwhile, in Stanhope, Santa’s little helpers have been working hard with the culmination of the year-long planning for the annual Christmas Lights Switch On. This year, the event will be combined with a Christmas Market to be held in the Bonny Moor Hen.
From 2pm on Friday November 28th, shoppers can browse a number of craft and gift stalls, mostly hand-made and unique. There will be charities there too, including 123 Help 4 Family’s, the Stanhope based charity that helps families in great need throughout the Dale. The Weardale Defibrilliator charity – David Nelson Memorial Fund – will hold a tombola and there will be a raffle, children’s lucky dip and crafts galore from Cecilia’s Attic.
At 5:30pm, Stanhope Silver Band will perform, playing Christmas Carols around the Market Cross and in front of the Christmas Tree where the lights will be switched on at 6pm.
Santa Claus will make an appearance and give out gifts from his grotto. There will also be hot and cold food on offer undercover but outdoors as well as the Bramble and Oak coffee trailer.
Everyone welcome. Please go along and support those who have worked hard to organise this event.
