THE closure to traffic that was to start today (November 25th) has been put back by one day.
One resident at least on the south side of the bridge had not received notice of the delay in closure although residents on the north side have done so. The resident who alerted the Gazette had cancelled medical appointments because of the difficulty with the diversion.
The Gazette contacted Durham County Council.
“We understand the impact that maintenance work can have, and we have done all we can to keep the bridge open to vehicles and pedestrians throughout most of the project. But these closures are needed to ensure the safety of the public and our workforce.
“Work is progressing well on the bridge, and we aim to have the works complete in the new year. We would like to thank residents for their patience during this time.”
The officer said they would contact the resident who raised the matter.
