The Auckland Project will host the Royal Northern Sinfonia in St Peter’s Chapel, Auckland Palace, for a special Winter Concert on Sunday 30 November.

Running from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and directed by Eva Thorarinsdottir, the orchestra will perform a seasonal programme of French, English Baroque, and Italian masterpieces, featuring works by John Dowland, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Marin Marais, Antonio Vivaldi, and others.

The performance will be set within St Peter’s Chapel, originally built around 1190 – during the time of Bishop Hugh du Puiset – as a medieval hall and later converted into a chapel by Bishop John Cosin in 1665.

Tickets are priced at £35 and include all-day entry to Christmas at Auckland Palace, giving visitors the chance to explore Auckland Palace dressed in festive finery, alongside access to the Faith Museum’s spectacular 18th-century Neapolitan Nativity.

Cheryl Durkin, Head of Events and Programming at The Auckland Project, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the Royal Northern Sinfonia back to St Peter’s Chapel. The combination of world-class musicianship and the magical setting make this an unforgettable way to celebrate the season.”

The Winter Concert is part of The Auckland Project’s festive programme coinciding with Christmas at Auckland Palace and AGLOW, a spectacular 1.5-mile winter light trail. Running from 21 November to 31 December (excluding Christmas Day), AGLOW transforms the Palace grounds and historic parkland with over 24 large-scale light installations, festive food and drink, Santa’s Village with live performances from his little helpers, and a towering 32-metre Christmas tree bedecked in almost a kilometre of lights.

Inside the Palace, the State Rooms, including the private apartments, will be sumptuously dressed, decked with garlands, glittering trees, and themed decorations blending history with festive charm, befitting the Prince Bishops of Durham. Plus, gain entry to the Faith Museum to see the spectacular 18th-century Neapolitan Nativity made up of more than 420 intricately carved figures.

Tickets for AGLOW start from £13.50, while entry to Christmas at Auckland Palace is included with a Bishop’s Key or Christmas at Auckland Palace ticket.
