ETHERLEY Methodist Church has organised a very special community event as part of the Remembrance commemorations.

It will begin on November 1st with a performance by the popular Durham Police Metropolitan Brass Band, conducted by Dennis Noble. It begins at 6pm with an evening meal followed by the special programme by the band at 7:30pm.

As a stunning additional feature to the event, the church community will be lighting up its unique Remembrance display, which this year will feature a six-feet high horse and soldier representing World War 1 and a Spitfire and Tank representing World War Two. These are fastened either side of the church entrance.

There will also be a display showing the congregation’s appreciation of the Royal Navy and Paratroopers too. The knitting enthusiasts in the church community have been working overtime to produce the camouflage needed to cover the tank and spitfire – the latter appears to be a huge 3D model but it’s actually flat.

The wool needed for this camouflage was obtained through Woollyback in Stanhope and the volunteers want to thanks Lynne Dent for all of her help with this project.

Tickets for the event are £13.50 and can be obtained by contacting Marie on 01388 526692. A special car park for patrons to this event will be opened and well sign-posted. Book early as this will be a popular event and places are limited.
