Community Interest Company offers work for local, young adults
OVER the last two weeks Trades4Care, a Community Interest Company concerned with introducing
local, young adults to the trades, has been carrying out the redecoration of the Reading Rooms in
Romaldkirk Village.
Supporting the team on this project were Bishop Auckland College painting and decorating
students, Matthew Walker and Thomas Wright-Pickles, as well Dominic Kelly from Darlington College
and Jess Johns from County Durham Resilience.

All these young people involved have previously worked with Trades4Care as part of their
construction courses and enjoyed their placements so much they now come out with the team
whenever there is an opportunity to do so.
Charlie Wright, who co-founded and runs Trades4Care, said, “The hall at Romaldkirk looks
amazing thanks to the team’s efforts and is the tenth of 12 community buildings benefiting from
some much-needed decorating with the support from Trades4Care and the Teesdale Area Local
networks.
” This project has again been a great success with local young adults putting the skills they’ve
learned at college to good use in our community.
“There are also some coming along to learn new skills and gain confidence all the while helping
another great charity that are doing all they can to keep our village halls open and maintained for
local residents to enjoy, hopefully for years to come.
“We have now carried out work on many local village halls and community buildings as well as
care homes, hospices, primary schools and private homes who can’t maintain their houses any more
due to illness, disability or old age.”
The management at Romaldkirk Village Hall was absolutely delighted with the work that the team
carried out and wrote to them in the most glowing of terms.
Every project Trades4Care work on creates an opportunity for local young adults to join the team
on a work placement. Projects available in the near future include St Teresa’s Hospice, a four-week
project beginning in July. There is also another in the pipeline for the Raby Estates, which the team
really enjoys taking part in.
“Taking our local youngsters high up the Dales has a really positive impact on them”, added
Charlie. “We also have work lined up later this year at the Auckland Youth and Community Centre,
Bowes and Barningham Village Halls; the Upper Teesdale Agricultural Support Services, Gainford
Village Hall and many more.”
There will be plenty of opportunities to take part in these projects should anyone be interested in
joining the team. Trades4Care are also seeking more projects. Trades4Care also runs a small
handyman service, available three days a week that covers Weardale as well as Teesdale and farther
field.
