NEW SPEED LIMIT ON A68 AT FIR TREE
THE A68 road going through Fir Tree has a new speed limit.
The road from Harperley roundabout to Fir Tree is a 60 mile limit until just after the road to
Harperley Hall where new 40mph signs have been erected. For a few hundred yards, it slows
vehicles down towards the 30mph limit through the village itself.
New 40mph limit signs have also been erected at the two exits from Fir Tree, one to the south as
the A68 proceeds towards Witton-le-Wear and the other to the east towards Howden-le-Wear.
Although the village is regularly policed by speed vans, it isn’t clear why these extra speed limits
have been deemed necessary.
A request to Durham County Council press office did not provide a reply to the question.
