TOW LAW TOWN COUNCIL
MINUTES of a meeting of the Tow Law Town Council held on Tuesday 20 th May 2025, commencing at
6.50pm in the Community Centre, Tow Law.
PRESENT: Councillors F. Nicol (Chair), M. Craggs, M. Dyer, P. Eastwood, J. Fowler, and A. Walsh.
ALSO PRESENT: County Councillor J Shuttleworth and G. F. Smith (Clerk) and Sophie Beaumont
(resident).
APOLOGIES
Apologies received from Councillors P. Stokes and County Councillor A. Savory.
DECLARATION OF INTERESTS
Councillor Nicol declared an interest in agenda items Nos 9 Tow Law Community Centre, and item 10
Tow Law Food Bank.
Councillor Craggs declared an interest in agendas items Nos 7 Allotments, No 9 Tow Law Community
Association and item No. 10 Tow Law Food Bank.
MINUTES OF THE ORDINARY MEETING HELD ON 15 th April 2025
The minutes were agreed by the Councillors and signed by the Chair.
COMMUNITY FUND
The following applications were received :-
Tow Law Community Association – Repair to clock.
Members agreed to pay for the costs of repairing the clock at the Community Centre at a cost of
£500.00 plus VAT £133.00 total £633.00. The Community Association to pay a donation of £165.00
towards the final costs. Balance to be paid from the Community Fund.
Tow Law Millennium Primary School – Summer School.
Members agreed to donate £250.00 towards this project from the Community Fund. I August 2025
pupils will take part in a selection of activities (arts, craft and sporting activities) as well as preparing
snacks and lunch by making fruit kebabs and sandwiches.
High Stoops Wood – members agreed to donate £95.00 towards the cost of hiring a porter loo for an
event being held in the woods on Sunday 22 nd June 2025.
REPORT BY THE CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR
Childrens Home (update).
The Chair would like to record the service to the Town Council for the following Councillors
not standing in this election:-
K. Duffy, J. Gale, E.Mather and T. Bland and County Councillor R. Manchester.
ALLOTMENTS
Applications for an allotment (waiting list) from:-
Mia Harrison, 7 Campbell Street and Jane Rawee, 16 Station Street.
Allotment Inspections – Councillor Crags and Councillor Eastwood to arrange a suitable date to carry
out the inspection and report to an appropriate Town Council meeting.
LAND REAR OF HIGH STREET
Item to be removed from the Agenda.
TOW LAW COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
Councillor Nicol reported on events in the Community Centre.
TOW LAW FOOD BANK
Councillor Nicol reported that demand for the service is still very high.
POLICE/PACT/SPEEDWATCH
Speed watch van crashed but now repaired, no figures available.
COUNTY COUNCILLORS REPORT
County Councillor Shuttleworth introduced himself and looked forward to working with the Town
Council.
BANK ACCOUNT (on-line banking) – Councillor Nicol to visit local bank branch to progress
application. Councillor Craggs to be added to the signatories list.
PLANNING MATTERS
Planning Application – DM/25/00678/FPA Land to the South of Tow Law Auto Care, Tow Law
Industrial Estate for the erection of a three bay and office vehicle repairs unit building by Mr Wayne
Trow.
NO objections raised to this project.
ACCOUNTS FOR PAYMENT
The Clerk reported the following:-
payments vouchers 08 to 13 sum of £3160.89
Members agreed to pay the above accounts.
BEEHIVE COKE OVENS
The gorse plants required further treatment and trimming back (still outstanding).
TOW LAW MILLENNIUM GREEN
Documents sent to the Charity Commission, awaiting response.
Inspection of Play Equipment (Sovereign Design Play Systems Ltd), report received Monday 14 th April
2025 , minor repairs to be carried out, as soon as possible.
FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
No progress.
VE DAY 8 th MAY 2025
Councillor Nicol reported that the events were well attended and would like to place on record her
thanks to Brian and Janet Fowler (Beacon) and Barry Marchant.
CLERK’S REPORT
The Clerk reported on the following:-
Clerk on holiday 27 th May to 4 th June 2025.
Distribution of DCC Declaration of interests forms handed to all Councillors at the meeting.

Councillor Nicol :-
Co-op Car Park, four pot holes (private land?).
Shop next to Community Centre.
