Wearhead crafter spreading happiness around the Dale
A LADY from Wearhead who is known for her expertise in crafting has used her skills to spread a
little joy.
Lesley Blackett has for many years appeared at craft fairs around the area offering her exquisite
home-made gifts and clothing. Recently, she has been crocheting and knitting little dolls and leaving
them around the upper Dale for others to find.
Most of the time, Lesley, who is a another of three and a grandmother, has no idea who the
people are who find the dolls. Last Saturday, however, she was contacted by the lady who found one
of the dolls.
Shannen Bebb was walking near Burnhope Reservoir on May 9 th when she found one of the little
dolls. She said, “I found it around 8pm when walking the dog and it has become a sentimental little
thing because about an hour later, my partner proposed there. Coincidentally, the colour of the ring
he gave me is the same colour blue as the doll.
“Thank you so much, it really made me smile.”
Lesley puts the little dolls into plastic so they don’t get wet and when she is out walking her dog,
she leaves them around the place for others to find.
She said, “I enjoy making them and I have had other messages from folk who have found them
but this one was so very special.”
