Bishop Auckland’s Chamber Choir celebrates 20 years of singing
THE Andreas Ensemble was founded in 2005 by the then Organist of St. Andrew’s, South Church,
Brian Varley, to enjoy performing the great cathedral music of the UK and Europe, featuring
composers like Byrd, Tallis, Palestrina and others, alongside madrigals and folksong arrangements.
This is a friendly and enthusiastic chamber choir, which sets itself high standards of choral singing,
drawing singers with a real love of church music from all over County Durham and from churches of
all denominations, Methodist, Roman Catholic, Anglican and others, but including individuals not
currently associated with any particular religious organisation.
If you might be interested in joining the Andreas Ensemble – the choir is always on the lookout for
new members – and you a) have some ability to read music or be prepared to make an intensive
effort to learn b) have a reasonable choral voice and be able, with training to sing in tune and in
time.
We are looking now to expand our numbers with new singers in all voice registers.

Church. near the swimming baths: just pop along if you would like to meet the group – you’ll get a
